      • The teaching component of the NSL seeks to impart the knowledge and skills needed to develop the standard strengths of spatial planning and their interaction as well as the ability to develop strategies for the solution of spatial problems. These are central prerequisites for a responsible and successful exercise of planning functions in the service of the public commonwealth and of private companies. Especially important in fufilling these prerequisites is the quality of university-level education: graduate and post-graduate work as well as professional development in spatial, urban and landscape planning. The ETH Zurich has offered programmes such as continuing education courses and post-graduate programmes (NDS, now MAS) since 1965. The NSL (Network City and Landscape) is responsible for these courses and programmes.

Systemic Design Labs at the Annual Systemic Design Symposium

Painted Logo for RSD14

3 – 21 October 2025 | Toronto.

ETH Zurich’s Systemic Design Labs will be highly visible at RSD14 in Toronto this October, contributing multiple offerings that put ETH at the leading edge of systemic design discourse. Dr. Tobias Luthe will deliver a plenary keynote titled “(Non)Intervening in Complexity: The Navigational Wheel of Inquiry”, introducing the SD Wheel of Inquiry as a relational tool to discern when to act—and when to refrain—in complex systems, and to cultivate capacity for “organic emergence.” In addition, Sylwia Orczykowska will host an Art & Quantum Social Transformation Lab, while DRRS alumni from our CAS in Systemic Design (part of the MAS ETH in Regenerative Systems will present their evolving Quests, illustrating how ETH’s systemic design training is shaping real-world explorations. These contributions underscore ETH’s contributions to exploring relationality in complexity, and its role in shaping arcs of impact through method, practice, and inner orientation.

DRRS is hosted by IBI-BAUG.
