Interest in collaborative housing is growing across Latin America. Based on 20 case studies, four distinct types were identified: the Eco-Communitarian, the Developer-led, the Resistance, and the Political, differentiated by the actors and instruments enabling their emergence, sustainability, and scalability over time.
The study maps the diversity of collective, self-organised housing and offers a framework for comparing these initiatives beyond Colombia, making it a valuable contribution to the collaborative housing research field. As part of the SNSF SPIRIT project, carried out jointly by ETH Wohnforum and the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, Daniela Sanjinés and the research team built an empirically grounded typology of collaborative housing in Colombia.
