What can architectural and urban practice learn from places where biodiversity and collective life are negotiated together?
Michele Porcelluzzi presents his doctoral research – jointly developed at Politecnico di Milano (DAStU) and ETH Zürich (D-ARCH, NEWROPE Chair of Architecture and Urban Transformation) and recently completed. The work investigates a series of urban places where ecological processes and collaborative practices shape each other. It is based on extended fieldwork across five European sites: Floating University in Berlin, De Ceuvel in Amsterdam, ASIAT Park in Vilvoorde, Krater in Ljubljana and Stadionbrache Hardturm in Zürich.
Four perspectives – dialogue, habitat, network and rituals – provide a framework for reading the five cases and for reflecting on how European naturecultural places are made, inhabited and cared for.
